Specialized perinatal grief support in Fort Worth, TX
miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, infertility, pregnancy termination, or life-limiting diagnosis
You may be grieving a child you knew whose future you were already imagining, a pregnancy that was just beginning, a path to parenthood that seemed simple, or the pregnancy or birth you thought you would have.
The length of a pregnancy does not determine the legitimacy of grief. Perinatal grief can include pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, and the grief that comes with receiving a life-limiting diagnosis. There is no grief hierarchy.
Pregnancy loss can leave you grieving much more than just a pregnancy. Maybe you are grieving the baby you never got to meet, the timeline you expected, the version of yourself you thought you were becoming, or the sense of safety you had before this experience.
With me, you will be able to find room for grief without feeling consumed by it. We will navigate the challenges of perinatal loss, including handling birth announcements, friends’ baby showers, feelings of jealousy or guilt, anger or numbness.
Pregnancy after loss
Walking through a pregnancy when you already know how much can go wrong…
A new pregnancy does not erase what happened before. You may feel hopeful, terrified, detached, hyper-aware of every symptom, or reluctant to even let yourself imagine a future at all. Therapy with me can hold space for grief and hope without making you feel like you have to pick one. You can bring the messy feelings without needing to understand them, justify them, or fix them.
I am Kim Garrett, MS, LPC, PMH-C. I offer specialized therapy for perinatal loss in Fort Worth, TX, as well as online throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
A little bit about me:
I have specialized training in maternal mental health, as well as perinatal grief and loss, through Postpartum Support International
I have over a decade of experience working with grievers
I have been the facilitator for child loss bereavement groups for A Memory Grows, a local Fort Worth non-profit
I don’t shy away from the messiness of grief. You do not have to make your grief tidy here. Tears are welcome, and so are humor, anger, relief, numbness, resentment, or moments of joy that feel surprising. We can make room for all of it without forcing your experience into a particular box or timeline.
